Patent Regulations: Code of Federal Regulations
The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) brings together (codifies) by subject or area all the current federal regulations in effect. Regulations are then further arranged by title (volume) and part or section number. The regulations pertaining to patents are found at 37 CFR.
- An up-to-date
electronic version of the CFR is provided by the National
Archives and Records Administration's Office of the Federal Register.
The "official
version" is also available, but is only updated once
per year.
- An easy-to use and search version of title
37 of the CFR is available from the Legal Information Institute
at Cornell University.
- A constantly updated iPad and iPhone app version of 37 CFR is also available:
Please note: The version of the CFR available at these sites is only effective as of a certain date. Newer regulations may not yet be incorporated into the CFR. Always check to see the effective date of the title of the CFR you are using.
